There are two methods for getting a compass in Escape from Tarkov. Right off the bat, you can get one from Jaeger:
Arrive at level 10 in the game to open Mechanic's missions.
When you gain admittance to https://www.lolga.com/ Mechanic's journeys, attempt the "Gunsmith Part 1" mission. You should find three Elite Pliers, trade them for a shotgun from the Mechanic, and modify the weapon on Mechanic's solicitation.
